The DFB Cup half-final of last season in early May 2021 was the last competitive game that Mateu could play Morey. Shortly after his substitution, he was seriously injured on the knee without external influence, a little later the bitter diagnosis was determined: cruciate ligament tear.
Last October, Morey had been able to complete his first running units, he completed large parts of his rehab in his home country of Mallorca. Now the 22-year-old’s suffering has apparently finally come to an end.
“I am at the end of my rehabilitation time, I see the light at the end of the tunnel,” wrote Morey on Twitter.
“I am sure that this injury as a person and player let me grow, I will continue to do my best to help BVB on the lawn,” he added. In addition, the right-back thanked his “family, friends, teammates, the BVB fans and all the people who supported him” in order to finally be able to play football again.
Now Mateu Morey should come back to Borussia Dortmund team training until the end of the season. For the team of head coach Marco Reus there are still two season games: next Saturday (3:30 p.m.) it will be against the safely determined relegation SpVgg Greuther Fürth, then the last home game for BVB is against Hertha BSC (May 14th).
So far, Morey has played 40 games in the Borussia Dortmund jersey, 18 of them in the Bundesliga, four in the DFB Cup and seven in the Champions League. After moving from FC Barcelona in summer 2019, he was initially traveling with the second team in the regional league.
